Amenities at this 2-star hotel include free Wi-Fi, dog-friendly rooms, an on-site bar and café. Air conditioning, vending machines, laundry services, and a concierge. You’ll also be able to grab tea and coffee in the common area, which is a nice touch if you’re heading out early for sightseeing (just remember to bring a reusable mug to improve your eco-consciousness!).
One of the reasons this is a green hotel in Seattle is that it’s largely decorated with repurposed or vintage furniture. The pieces that are scattered around each room are primarily made from salvaged wood. And if you look closely at the headboards, you may notice that the canvas used on each one is made from recycled army ponchos.
The hotel also uses green cleaning products, recycled water, and energy-efficient bulbs throughout the entire property. If you’re dining at the on-site restaurant, it’s worth noting they have a food recycling system in place here. To reduce waste, all scraps from the organic and locally sourced meals are quickly processed into viable mulch.

In terms of décor, expect a muted and neutral color palette, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a cozy but modern ambiance. You’ll have access to a fitness center, an on-site restaurant, pool, spa, free Wi-Fi, and even babysitting services if you feel like hitting some of Seattle’s attractions sans kids.
One of the cool things about this eco-friendly hotel in Seattle is that there’s a large living rooftop that attracts birds and bees. The Edgewater Hotel

The owners have taken full advantage of the hotel’s location by opening the Six Seven Restaurant & Lounge. Which combines naturally raised, organic ingredients with unspoiled panoramas. The large deck area is perfect for sipping local wines or wiling away the afternoon with a strong cup of coffee.
Other amenities include Wi-Fi, a fitness center, and a full-service spa. If you look closely, you’ll also notice local art and quirky tree-stump tables dotted around the lobby.

Fairmont Olympic Hotel

The hotel’s rooftop garden is also really impressive. It’s the site of their Fairmont Olympic Bee Program, which houses approximately 180,000 bees across 8 hives during the height of pollination season. The honey produced is then used in its restaurants and bars.

The hotel has been working towards a zero-carbon approach for a few years. And has been making waves with its low-flow fixtures, energy-efficient bulbs, a linen reuse program, and a commitment to using eco-friendly ink and paper.
To keep their dazzling pool looking its best, they use a saline solution that’s entirely chemical-free to minimize damage to the environment. To reduce food waste and help those in need, the hotel has also partnered with America’s Second Harvest to donate all uneaten food.
The Alexis Royal Sonesta

As an Actively Green sustainable business, The Alexis has a towel and linen reuse program, is water and energy-efficient. And only uses environmentally friendly cleaning products across the entire site.
Saving the planet also helps your pocketbook at this hotel, as skipping housekeeping earns you $10 to put towards your room rate, mini bar, or restaurant meal. It’s a small gesture, but it makes sustainable travel feel slightly sweeter!
Motif Seattle

And is located on 5th Avenue amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. It offers great access to Pike Place Market and you’ll also be within walking distance of the waterfront.
Amenities here are in line with the Hyatt’s other properties. Including a fitness center, laundry services, a concierge, free Wi-Fi, and electric vehicle charging. It’s also home to Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails, one of the best rooftop bars in Seattle I used to go to all the time when I worked downtown in my 20s.
This place has been on the sustainability track for years as a member of the Destination Earth program. Spearheaded by Destination Hotels, this endeavor seeks to retrofit properties with energy-efficient systems that make them more eco-friendly.
So far, this hotel has managed to reduce waste production and energy consumption, create a recycling program, and increase its use of organic and locally grown food from Seattle’s small businesses.
The Westin Seattle

All food at the on-site restaurants is composted. And they’re big on recycling and using environmentally friendly cleaning and toiletry products too.
Best Western Pioneer Square

The Best Western Pioneer Square is a good option for a more affordable, eco-conscious stay in Seattle. It boasts a prime location near Pike Place. And while it’s not super luxurious, it has all the facilities you’ll need for a comfortable stay. Speaking from experience, I always appreciated the complimentary continental breakfast (featuring fresh Belgian waffles!) and the speedy free Wi-Fi.
This hotel has a 3 Green Key eco-rating and has several sustainable features. Including low-flow bathroom fixtures, energy-efficient lighting across all guest rooms. And excellent water recovery systems that re-collect condensation from steam for repurposing.
As this Best Western hotel is part of the Clean the World program, it also donates unused hygiene products to national and international communities in need. Even the toiletries here are eco-friendly, as they’re also designed to be biodegradable and contain no parabens or lanolin.
citizenM Seattle South Lake Union

With a Walk Score of 98, this hotel is a great base for first-time visitors to Seattle. This is one of the green hotels in Seattle that is known by locals for its eclectic bar area. As it serves funky and unique beers that you may not find elsewhere in the city. It’s also near some of the best South Lake Union restaurants.
In terms of eco-friendliness, the hotel is certified LEED Gold. This is largely due to their three-year aged solar reflectance value, low water use, and auto shut-off LED lighting.
The hotel’s electricity also comes from 90% renewable sources. And all hotel areas have individual controls that prevent overuse of air conditioning or heat. Oh, and did I mention that the hotel has rooftop solar panels, too?
To make things even greener, these folks have partnered with TooGoodToGo to minimize food waste from their breakfast buffet.
Courtyard by Marriott Seattle Northgate

The Courtyard by Marriott Seattle Northgate is the perfect location for exploring some of the best restaurants in North Seattle. It’s clean, no-nonsense, and has a lovely outdoor area for sipping cocktails and decompressing after a heavy day of sightseeing (which is easy to do thanks to the nearby light rail station that gets you downtown and to Capitol Hill quickly).
Each room is well-designed and modern, featuring ergonomic chairs and desks, free in-room Wi-Fi, and a large flat-panel TV. There’s also an onsite American restaurant called The Watershed Pub.
It may not boast about its sustainability as openly as other hotels, but this place is a Booking.com Travel Sustainable Property. Most food at the restaurant is locally sourced, the lighting is energy efficient, recycling bins are available in each room. And the hotel even invests a percentage of revenue back into community projects.
The Charter Hotel Seattle

The Charter Hotel is a cool place to stay in Seattle for multiple reasons, only one being its sustainability. For starters it has one of my favorite rooftop bars, The Fog Room. There’s also a fitness studio and each room comes with blackout shades, plush bedding, and many overlook downtown.
As for sustainability, the hotel makes use of energy-efficient lighting, water saving fixtures like low-flow toilets, and an extensive recycling program. The in-house Peruvian restaurant, Patagōn, frequently sources local and organic produce for their menu.
W Seattle
