Yes, I know, I’m obsessed with Brooklyn.
You might have just seen my breakdown of the best vendors at the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg last week. You might have also seen my Brooklyn shopping guide article.
Well, I tried my hand at some more Brooklyn shopping during my visit to New York City a few weeks ago. I headed to the Brooklyn Flea (as always) and stumbled upon a great new boutique in Williamsburg. Check out the items I found and where you can get them (even if you’re not planning a trip to NYC anytime soon).
I am obsessed with this military jacket. I am always scouring the racks at The Brooklyn Flea for fatigue jackets, as there are a few vendors who sell racks and racks of vintage jackets curated from various military branches across the world. Since these are typically made for men, sizing is always a huge issue for me because I have a short torso.
Then, the sky parted and I spotted this gem at Rue St. Denis. I loved how it had a belt so that I could cinch the waist — perfect for over-sized clothes. I also fell in love with that collar. What’s more, I discovered that the fleece collar and interior lining is removable, so it’s perfect year round.
This find couldn’t have come at a better time, as the week I was in NYC there was a polar vortex going on and I thought my face was going to fall off. This jacket is SO warm, which makes sense because it is from the Czech Republic military circa around the 30’s.
However, what I like most about this jacket is that it can be worn by either Travis or me. Puts a whole new meaning to “borrowed from the boys”.
I also found some great jewelry at The Flea this trip. If you’re into jewelery, you have to do some digging at The Brooklyn Flea. There are a lot of vendors that collect obscene amounts of costume jewelry, most of which I find gaudy.
However, I stumbled across this unassuming older gentleman selling his costume jewelry and was obsessed with his taste level. I asked him if he had an online shop or if anyone helped him curate the items. He said no one helps him, and that unfortunately he doesn’t sell online. He just enjoys collecting jewelry and selling them at The Flea every weekend. What a cutie!
You might have noticed I had some sort of over-sized cowl neck coming out of the top of the jacket in the above photos. It’s from this amazing local boutique I found in Williamsburg on my way home from The Flea. It’s called Meg and it features minimalist, graphic clothing and accessories for women.
Well, this unbelievably cozy felt dress is the big purchase I walked away with:
It took me a while to pull the trigger, as I felt like it was too outrageous for everyday wear. However, after spending two hours in the boutique and dressing it up and down, I finally pulled the trigger. It’s actually quite versatile. It can be dressed down like the above photos or dressed up with some heels (which I think is the better look):
I also spotted this infinity scarf. I loved how it was so simple…literally just yarn pieces. I also loved how it was so long that it could be worn double or as one long scarf. I think the long version adds some texture to the dress, but the doubled-up version looks amazing against a chambray shirt.
Well, there you have it…the items I stuffed into my tiny carry on suitcase during my last trip in NYC. Here is the full shopping list for all the items you see in the above photos.
1) Geometric gold triangle necklace, Forever 21. 2) Orange Heels, Bliss boutique in Fremont. 3) Black and white marled socks, J.Crew. 4) Red Sneakers, Beaver for The Gap.
